Turning Water into Fine Wine: The First Miracle, Mid-Century Modern Style

A Mother's Influence & A Savior's Grace

When choosing which moment in Jesus’ life to illustrate, His first miracle at the Wedding at Cana stood out immediately. It’s such a powerful, grounded story. A young couple’s big day was heading toward total embarrassment, but Jesus stepped in to save the celebration. What moves me most is Mary’s role, her deep influence and gentle prompt to her Son: "Do whatever He tells you." It’s a testament to family, faith, and divine timing.

Reimagining Cana in Palm Springs

As I developed this concept, I wanted to merge ancient biblical wonder with iconic 1950s and 60s design. I thought: What if this miracle took place in a retro, mid-century modern home in sunny Palm Springs?

Starting with raw sketchbook layouts, I mapped out how mid-century elements could mirror the biblical scene:

  • The Setting: Starburst wall clocks, geometric diamond wallpaper, and a warm, sun-drenched desert palette of burnt orange, aqua teal, and gold.

  • The Vessels: Instead of traditional stone jars, I designed sleek, asymmetrical mid-century ceramic pots overflowing with rich red wine.

  • The Vibe: A stylish living room where a modern gathering is saved by a quiet act of grace.

Bringing timeless scripture into a chic, retro space was such a fun creative journey, a reminder that His grace seamlessly fits into any era.
